Pain

I had a wonderful day on Thursday. My doctor had found some lumps and so she sent me for a mammogram in Edmonton. The results were negative. Then I went and had an eye exam and purchased new glasses for 50% off of everything because Shoppers Optical was having a big sale so I got new glasses for $276; including the anti-glare and scratch resistant! I was quite impressed because my last pair was around $400. Considering my eyes have gotten worse and now I have to wear the glasses all of the time now I am quite impressed. I won't get them until this Friday but am quite excited about the new glasses!! Then Friday was just a leisure day that I didn't really do much at all just bummed around town and home. I went to bed early on Friday night and then at 5:53am on Saturday morning I awoke to excruiating pain going across my forehead. I got up and took two extra strength acetaminophen. It did nothing so at 8am I took one of my migraine pills, nothing, 9am another 2 acetaminophen, nothing, 10am another migraine pill. NOTHING. It was so painful I was in tears. I don't remember ever having pain like that since being an adult. I remember when I was young and crying because my tonsils hurt so bad, that is the only time I remember actually physically crying from pain. Then there is this. No relief in sight and I have no idea what to do! I finally decide at 10:36am that I need to go to the hospital. I can't just keep taking pills, they aren't doing anything. I go into the emergency. I live two blocks from the hospital and I hate going there because the doctors never seem to know anything and the care isn't always the best. I knew I couldn't drive to Bonnyville, 40 minutes away, though so I get in my car and make the two block hike and go and sit in the emergency room. There was only me so thought it was going to be a quick trip! Well in the cubicle that they put me in next door was a screaming baby that had been burned, great sound for a headache. The room that I was in was also air conditioned and it didn't stop blowing the entire time that I was there. Why they had the air conditioning going when it was only 2 above is beyond me anyways! So I see the nurse, she checks my vitals, blood pressure is high. Probably cause I'm in intense pain! The doctor comes in and goes over all of the exact same questions that the nurse asks, except he also asks "Where you out all night enjoying the moonlight?" I interpreted that to mean, had I been out drinking all night. I calmly answered him, "I was at home all night, in bed by 10pm last night." He then prescribed Ibuprofen. I took them and had to wait to see if it went away. So I am in intense pain, freezing with a screaming kid next door. Do you think the headache is going to go away with a few pills?? Of course it didn't so then at 11:30am they put my on an IV of stuff, not morphine. Dexetrol and gravol I think. I remember the gravol for sure. So after an hour the pain was completely gone and I was feeling anxious to go home because I was so dopey I wanted nothing more than to be in my bed at home sleeping. At 1:30pm the doctor went for lunch so it would be a while yet for them to discharge me. At 2:30pm he had seen all the other patients around me and still had not come to discharge me. I know that this is really bad but I had had enough. I turned off the IV machine, took out my IV and went home. There was no one around to see me anyways. They complain about people abusing the health care system. Would he ever ask a hypochondriac "Are you sure you just aren't making this up?" I was so pissed off by the time that I went home. When I got home I was so doped up that I ended up just sleeping for the rest of the day. I got up at 5:30pm and was awake for about 20minutes and then went back to bed. I slept until the next morning at 8am!
